Privacy Policy

1. Information we collect

None that identifies you. There is no sign-up, no login and no profile. We do not ask for your name, email address, aircraft, certificate number or any other identifying detail in order to use the app. The single exception is the push token described in section 4, which exists only if you turn alerts on and is deleted when you turn them off.

2. Location

If you grant location permission, your device's position is used on the device to centre the map, to show your position and track on the chart, and to find airports near you. It is not transmitted to our servers and not shared with anyone. Denying the permission leaves every other feature working; you simply search for airports instead of having them found for you.

3. Flight tracks

When the app detects that you are flying it records the flight as a track — a series of positions, altitudes, speeds and times — so that you can review it afterwards. These tracks are written to storage on your device. They are not uploaded, not backed up to us, and never leave the device unless you deliberately share one. The most recent 50 flights are kept and older ones are discarded automatically. You can delete any track from the flight log at any time, and deleting the app removes all of them.

4. Flight category alerts

If you switch on alerts for a saved airport, the app sends us an Apple push token for your device together with the list of airport identifiers you want watched. That pairing is stored on our server so we can send the notification, and it is the only record in our system tied to a particular device. It contains no name, email, account or location. Switching alerts off sends an empty list, and removing the app or turning off notifications invalidates the token; you can also ask us to delete it outright using the address in section 13.

5. Analytics and tracking

There are none. No analytics SDK, no crash-reporting service that identifies you, no advertising identifier, no third-party trackers, and no cookies on this website. The typefaces on this site are served from our own server rather than a font network, so visiting these pages does not disclose your IP address to a third party.

6. Requests to our servers

The app requests weather and NOTAM data from our server, which relays it from the FAA and the National Weather Service. Those requests are not logged against any identity and no request history is retained. Apart from the alert registration described in section 4, there is no mechanism in the system that associates a request with a person or device.

7. Subscriptions

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Apple provides us with aggregate, anonymous sales information; it does not tell us who you are.

8. Third-party data sources

Retrieving charts, weather, radar and NOTAMs necessarily contacts the organisations that publish them, listed on the Data Sources page. Those requests are made by the app or by our server and are subject to the receiving organisation's own practices. We do not send them anything identifying you.

9. Children

Threshold is a tool for pilots and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, which includes children.

10. Your rights

Regulations such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct and delete personal data held about you. The only record we hold is the alert registration in section 4; write to us and we will confirm whether a token is registered and delete it. Everything else — your location, your flight tracks, your saved airports and your routes — is on your device, under your control, and can be erased there without asking us.

11. Data security

Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Data held on your device is protected by iOS file protection and whatever passcode or biometric lock you have set. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but the strongest protection here is structural: data that is never collected cannot be exposed.

12. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version is posted on this page with a new date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
